Richard Babusci

Richard's paintings are organisms - many individual ideas, splashes and strokes interacting on the page to form a whole unique character.  Their compositions are balanced, but imperfect - a result of their random beginnings.  Much like the bonsai process, he first allows the painting to grow naturally and uninhibited.  He then applies intuition to rework it and carve away the excess.

Like a collection of specimens, the finished pieces invite the viewer to examine their complex qualities, and appreciate their imperfect beauty.  Allow yourself to get to know the paintings by exploring every relationship of every part and their contributions to the whole.  As your eye gradually traverses each painting's layered landscapes, contemplating their strengths and weaknesses, you will find personalities revealed in them.  It is this final interaction - the experience of examining some strange new thing - that lends the paintings their meaning.
